Chetana College of Media and Performing Arts, affiliated to University of Calicut, is the innovative venture of CMI Devamatha Province, Thrissur, forming part of the CHETANA GROUP of institutions for Media Education, Production and Performance. We impart systematic training in different media arts, namely, cinema, television, print, new media and various Eastern and Western branches of fine arts and performing arts. At present, we offer undergraduate and graduate programmes, but our dream is to eventually bloom into a full-fledged Media University.

Chetana, one of the premier media schools in the country, stands apart as our focus is on forming a generation of creative talents, infusing flawless training that moulds them into full-fledged professionals. Founded in the early 1980s, Chetana Film & TV Institute, the mother of the CHETANA Group of Institutions, later branched out into seven major media institutions, spread out on five campuses in and around Thrissur, namely, Chetana Sound Studios & Instructions (Chiyyaram), Chetana Music Academy (Kess Bhavan, Naikkanal), Chetana Media Institute (Kalliath Square, Palace Road), Chetana Sangeet Natak Academy, Chetana Music College and Chetana National Institute of Vocology, all three at Mylippadam and the seventh in the spectrum, namely Chetana College of Media and Performing Arts at Chiyyaram.

Chetana-the Inner Spirit

Every man and a woman with a movie camera may not become a great filmmaker; everyone who aspires to embrace a coveted career in the film and media industry may not reach their goal just by possessing the latest expensive gadgets or by `buying’ a diploma from a media institution at a high price.

FIRST, you should have `SOMETHING’ to say; something deep inside: a clear VISION. A true artist develops a sixth sense, listening to the murmur of her/his Inner Spirit, and giving form to that yearning through creative art. It’s here that Chetana creates its difference and gains relevance, with an ambitious and idealist goal of leading all beings into harmony, bridging the sacred and the secular, through art. With Dostoyevsky, we believe, “Beauty will Save the World”.

At CHETANA, we say `we don’t teach filmmaking, but we MOULD Filmmakers’. Our goal is the deep-founded formation of young men and women into fine human beings, who would care for both the content and the form of art and achieve excellence by going beyond the seen and the heard. We train them to achieve mastery of mind over machines, through techniques of Education, Production and Performance.

From the Principal’s Desk

Mr Arun John Mani

Chetana College of Media and Performing Arts, is conceived as a ‘college that is not just a college’, but as a creative and interactive space. Here, students will not wait to the chimes of the hourly bell to begin or end their ongoing learning. For them neither theory nor practical nor practice are matters of routine. In this campus, learning will be a joy, where students would listen to their hearts that seek true wisdom of life by combining art and technology, creativity and craft. We always are eager to see our students becoming 24/7 media professionals at the completion of their programme. As long as one is a ‘Chetanite’, he or she is always accorded a warm welcome back to the campus, that would also keep them learning and updating themselves. Our goal and role is to awaken the sense of responsible media praxis in our students. We all know that mastering visual, aural and all different kinds of fine arts and media arts is a lifelong process.

The Annual General Body (GB) meeting of the PTA is convened in the month of September, where new EC and Office bearers are nominated or elected. The Executive Committee shall meet once in three months. These periodical review meetings help the college to look at the progress it makes and the general well being of the student community. In addition to regular PTA activities, there will be class-wise PTA meetings linked to the semester examinations, which will be convened by the Principal.
